Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide framework for understanding acesss to dental care. In this paper Andersen's model is applied to the use of dental visits. This model consists of predisposing, enabling, and need components that describe a
person's decision to use health services.
The framework in this study is composed of two models, one is for Adults and the cther is for Non-Adults. Models are operationalized using stepwise multiple regression analysis and path analysis.
The data collected by means of a interview and questionnaire survey, clinical oral examination conducted from May, 1991 to May, 1992 on five dental health care institutions, and 545 persons were surveyed(Adult=345, Non-Adult 220).
@ES The findings of anaysis can be summarized as follows:
@EN 1. The Causal models used in this study are able to explain only a small amount of the variance in dental health care utilization.
2. Statistically significant variables in dental health care utilization included the number of restricted activity days and sex in both models for Adults and Non-Adults. And the number of restricted activity days caused by oral disease were the
most
important variable affecting use of services.
3. The amount of variance explained in the Model for Adults is more than in the Model for Non-Adults.
4. Family income, occupation, sex, number of restricted activity days caused by oral disease, degree of periodontal disease, order of brother were found to have significant direct effects on dental utilization of adults.
